NEW JEFFREY SMARTHOG SYSTEM MONITORS “MACHINE HEALTH,” HELPS DIAGNOSES PROBLEMS FOR MORE EFFECTIVE MAINTENANCE
WOODRUFF, S.C.—Now wood hog operators and equipment maintenance personnel can identify the nature and severity of their machines’ operational problems faster, schedule maintenance functions more efficiently, and prevent repeat failures more reliably thanks to Jeffrey Specialty Equipment Corporation and its new SmartHog System.
Available only through Jeffrey authorized distributors, the new SmartHog System integrates easily with existing control systems and represents the most advanced technology offered in Condition Monitoring (CM) and Condition-based Maintenance (CbM) for rotating machinery.
Unlike traditional condition monitoring systems that relate only standard process or control data, the new Jeffrey SmartHog System provides vital information on the machine’s overall “health” and operation. This includes conditions such as worn and damaged hammers and rotors, worn or bent shafts, bearing problems, and excessive vibration.
“The advantage of the SmartHog is that it comprehensively measures, analyzes, and records the physical characteristics and conditions of a wood hog during operation,” says Doug Sublett, sales manager. “It clearly helps identify problems, but equally important its data helps prevent repeat failures and allows users to make better maintenance and repair recommendations.”
System modules and sensors collect data continuously, monitoring the hog’s overall vibration and bearing temperature levels, as well as seven different discrete frequency ranges. This information is then communicated via Device Net or Ethernet with Allen Bradley plant control systems, giving users easy access to CM data through their existing control infrastructure.
Not only does the SmartHog System provide users with comprehensive monitoring and data collection, but it features powerful diagnostic capabilities, too.
In addition to overall level data, its modules capture and store Time Waveform and Spectra (FFT) data for full vibration problem diagnostics. Modules are connected via Ethernet to a Remote Access Modem, which allows analysts to dial in securely to the system and view live-time data. The system can also be configured to create and communicate a machinery condition history.
